MSI Menu System
Policy Statement
Copyright (C) 1991, 1992 Larry B. Rice
______________________________________________________________
The MSI Menu System is distributed by means of system known as
Shareware. This system allows computer owners to:
1. Try a program before purchasing.
2. "Share" programs they find useful with friends.
3. Achieve significant savings for high-quality software.
Shareware has been providing computer owners with high-
quality, low-cost software for many years. The savings is
realized through the reduction or elimination of expensive
packaging, advertising and use of commercial distribution
channels.
I personally believe that the MSI Menu System is one of the
best values in menuing software, Shareware or Commercial,
available today. For just $10.00, MSI offers a range of
features and versatility unmatched by programs selling for as
much as three to four times the price.
But good software is only half of the equation. To survive in
today's market a program must also have unbeatable service and
support.
To meet that goal, I have instituted the following policies:
1. Satisfaction Guaranteed. If for ANY reason you are not
satisfied with the program within 30 days of registration, you
will receive a FULL REFUND immediately. No questions asked.
2. All registered owners will receive UNLIMITED telephone
support for as long as they use the program.
3. All MSI users, registered or not, will have UNLIMITED
use of the Support Network described in the file, SUPPORT.MSI.
4. Registered owners may receive Enhancement releases of
the software for postage & handling cost only of $2.50 (U.S.)
for a full year after purchase. Thereafter, the upgrade cost,
including postage & handling, is $5.00 (U.S.) for Private
Individuals and $10.00 (U.S.) for Commercial Site Licenses. A
description of Enhancement releases will be found below.
5. Maintenance releases will be available for postage &
handling only of $2.50 (U.S.) to registered owners FOR AS LONG
AS THEY USE THE PROGRAM. A description of Maintenance
releases will be found below.
6. All support requests will receive a status reply within
one working day of receipt. (Because of the nature of
computer networks, replies to requests made by network message
may not be received for several days. While network
reliability has improved considerably, there are still the
occasional lost or otherwise mis-transmitted messages. Your
understanding in these situations will be appreciated.)
7. All orders will be filled within 3 working days of
receipt. Orders that are received within two weeks of a
planned release may be delayed so as to provide the very
latest revision available.
IMPORTANT: Upgrade charges are based on current postal rates
and are subject to change to reflect new rates as they occur.
ENHANCEMENT RELEASES: These are new releases of the MSI Menu
System that include new features or otherwise enhanced
functionality. The version number will indicate an
Enhancement release through a change in either the first or
second digit of the number. (See below.)
MAINTENANCE RELEASES: These are releases that only include
fixes for reported and unreported bugs and problems with
documentation. Maintenance releases will never include new
features or enhanced functionality. The version number will
indicate a maintenance release through a change in the third
digit of the number.
VERSION NUMBER DESCRIPTION:
Version Number 1.60
^ ^^
| ||__ Third Digit = Maintenance Release
| |__ Second Digit = Minor Enhancement
|__ First Digit = Major Enhancement
For Example:
1.60 includes Minor Enhancements from v1.50.
1.71 would be the first Maintenance release for v1.70.
Some frequently asked questions:
DO I NEED TO UPGRADE WITH EACH NEW RELEASE?
Absolutely not! There are a number of reasons for new
program revisions being released (see below) and only rarely
will they affect you. You should upgrade ONLY if:
1. the release includes a fix for a bug that has caused
you problems in the past.
2. the release has a new feature that you need or would
like to have.
Experienced computer owners know that it is nearly impossible
to keep up with all the new releases of all the software that
they use, and they don't even try. The rule of thumb is, if
the revision you have is working for your needs, don't replace
it. If your needs change, THEN look to upgrade.
WHY ARE THERE NEW RELEASES?
Or, as I have been asked, "When will the program be done?".
Any popular program is never done and will see a number of
revisions made, either because of problems that have been
identified and fixed in the software and/or the documentation,
or because a number of its users have requested additional
features or changes in functionality.
New users mean new ideas for use, and that fuels revisions.
Quite often what happens is that a newly added feature (or
newly discovered feature!) will generate ideas from users
about new applications for the software if, of course, it
only worked a little differently...
Also, computer owners constantly become more sophisticated
in the use of their software. This means that a program that
once worked perfectly, for the level at which they were
operating originally, may now leave something to be desired,
unless the author provides layers of functionality and
enhancements.
And too, changes in hardware and software technology allow
us to continually reach just a little farther for new things
that can be accomplished...
YES, BUT IN A MENUING PROGRAM?
Yes, I've heard this, but as the original release of MSI
demonstrated, the final definition of menuing software has yet
to be made. In fact, I've received a number of highly
sophisticated suggestions from users that indicate that even
MSI is just beginning to tap the potential.
